THE COLLAPSE OF VERSAILLES AND THE WESTERN "APPEASERS» A LA CHAMBERLAIN AND CO

The article examines the desire of the bourgeoisie, the military, and the right-wing parties of the Weimar Republic to revise the provisions of the Versailles Treaty. First of all the articles concerning military restrictions, territorial questions and reparations were subject to revision. But before Hitler came to power, these attempts were not very successful. But when Hitler became chancellor in January 1933, he forced the remilitarization of the country and used the significant improvements in the economic situation and the chauvinistic propaganda under him to win the sympathy and support of a large part of the German population. Within a few years he managed to restore the country's military power and prepare for a revanchist war with the West. Hitler's accomplices were those circles and politicians of the Western democracies, including France and Great Britain (N. Chamberlain, E. Daladier and others) who sought to use the Third Reich as a means to combat the USSR, seeing no real danger to themselves. The top of the treacherous policy of "appeasement" of Hitler was the position of the West, which approved, in particular, the anschluss of Austria and the elimination of the independence of Czechoslovakia, which allowed Hitler to redraw the political map of Europe by military blitzkrieg
