EUPHEMISMS IN THE WORKS OF CH. AITMATOV
A. SoponovaEuphemism is derived from the Greek language and means ‘to speak politely’. Polite speech reveals a person’s personality and reflects his or her intellectual level and communication culture.
In speech euphemisms are used in a wide range of areas: literary texts, public speaking, politics and everyday life. We often try to express our thoughts more politely, better, and more appropriately by replacing words that are a little rougher and more unpleasant to the ears with suitable words. In general, euphemisms have been used since ancient times as a linguistic phenomenon, and are considered a linguistic means to prevent people from saying rude, harsh, and bitter words that they do not want to say.It contributes to polite and soft delivery of the spoken thought, provides emotionality and aesthetic side of the speech. Our people treated words very cautiously, believing that words have their own properties and value
