The Chagatai language of the 15th century was formed as a classical written literary language and became the language of inter-ethnic relations in the Central Asian region. The Chagatai language, with its various dialectal forms, was the common language of Turkic ethnic groups and was used until the beginning of the 20th century. In the Middle Ages, the official language of the Kyrgyz people was the Kyrgyz language, and the Chagatai language was a written literary language and a diplomatic language. Kyrgyz rulers wrote diplomatic letters in Chagatai language. The article considered the significance of the written literary Chagatai language in the history of the formation of the Kyrgyz literary language and the role played by the Chagatai language in diplomatic relations with Russia in the history of the Kyrgyz people at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Our main goal is to investigate the grammatical features of the language of diplomatic letters writ- ten in the Chagatai language and compare and reveal the commonalities with the modern Kyrgyz language, and to take measures for analysis based on the linguistic base. Attention was paid to the previous researches of Kyrgyz scientists. Research work is based on comparative-historical and dia- chronic methods.
