This article presents information about the epistolary form in Kyrgyz literature, its history, genesis and sources. This is due to the fact that until now the literary and artistic works published in this direction have been widely studied in the framework of world and Russian literature, but in the framework of Kyrgyz literature no importance was attached and no special studies were undertaken. In the article, the origin of the epistolary form - oral folk art - is revealed on specific examples. After all, in the examples of oral creativity, which began with the epic “Manas”, it is possible to meet such genre types as the letter “Ukazy” and the letter “Prikazy”, which belong to the epistolary form. If this situation forms one side of the origin of the specified form in Kyrgyz literature, then the letter “Inheritance” and the letter “Memory”, found in stone monuments and epitaphs of all Turkic peoples, is an example of a written sample of the epistolary form in Kyrgyz literature and expresses the other side of its origin. And the wide use of the mentioned genre in the works of poets-writers gives reason to say that this is the third side of the origins of the epistolary form
