This article analyzes poet, translator and critic A.Toktogulov’s research in the genre of artistic translation. Among his translations, emphasis is placed on the poetic history of “Fables” by I.A. Krylov. As it is known, I.A. Krylov developed the fable genre in literary artistic creativity, and is one of the creators who made a huge contribution to the development, formation, content and thematic enrichment of this genre in Russian classical literature.The interest in his fables was translated into Kyrgyz language by famous representatives of professional Kyrgyz literature, A. Tokombaev, K. Bayalinov, A. Osmonov, R. Shukurbekov, who were interested in his fables, but those translations were embedded in the tradition of folk art and remained folklore motifs. are noted. And A. Toktogulov tried to analyze the life and work of I. Krylov, the reasons for turning to the fable genre, and the issues related to the free translation of his fables
