Bulletin of the Bishkek State University

The research focuses on phraseological units describing human character in Chinese and Kyrgyz languages. The relevance of this study is justified by the fact that phraseological expressions contain rich information about historical events, cultural characteristics, and national mentality. The paper analyzes features of using such units in speech, distinguishing two main categories: those expressing positive human qualities and negative character traits. Positive qualities include competence, justice, sincerity, firmness and courage. Negative traits express rudeness, laziness, instability, deception, hypocrisy, cunning, cruelty, greed and cowardice. Both languages contain phraseological units identical in meaning, as well as differing in semantics and practical application.
