THE ROLE OF SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

G.I. Mukambetova

This article investigates school libraries as crucial factors in developing contemporary educational environments. The significance of libraries in fostering information literacy among students and implementing school educational programs is examined. International standards for school library activities based on IFLA/UNESCO documents are analyzed alongside the experience of implementing information technologies and automated textbook management systems in Kyrgyzstan’s libraries. Results of organized school library forums and professional development programs for librarians are presented. Key problems include insufficient funding, staff shortages, and uneven technical equipment distribution. The article substantiates the need to enhance school library status, develop librarians’ digital competencies, and create a unified electronic information space for quality educational support.
